As the Deer...or Buck.
Caught this young one about an hour from the house on our way back from Cape Cod, last evening. He was along the road eating whatever was there, so I backed up and pulled off into a spot, put on the long lens, and started snapping away.
He would go toward the woods when a car went by, then back out to whatever it was he was enjoying. I feared for his life, and the life of other drivers. I waved my hand for them to slow down, and tried to finally shoo him off the road, and back into the woods. I kept taking his picture while doing so, and at one point, I started talking to him, and said "Hi" and such... he just looked at me with curiosity. We looked at each other, he walked toward me and was so close I could have touched his nose. I was nervous and excited at the same time. I chose not to reach out because first, I didn't want him to get used to that, or be a part of him getting used to that and people... second I didn't know what he'd actually do, and third, he may have ended up in the car with us! Although Bella may not have liked that. But who knows... He just didn't seem to care that I was there, and seemed actually intriged and curious at that point.
I backed off, and he did, as well, but looked my way for quite a while. He finally crossed the road and went back into the woods. I kept telling him to keep going!
I had never been that close to a buck, and it was truly amazing... One with Nature.
And deer have some special meaning to me, so this just added to the list of moments that are amazing, and special.
And how can you not love that evening lighting behind him? I was truly amazed at and grateful for this whole experience.
